- Fellow testers,
- As per the pre-release announcement, Main is in "soft freeze" for the release of Alpha 4, which is set for January 31st. This is posted in an effort to address some questions and misunderstandings that recur at just about every milestone release.
- * The release is set roughly for January 31st in the release schedule, but it may not happen on that exact date. A number of bugs are set as blocking the release, which means that the release will not be made before these bugs are fixed, which in turn explains the possible delay. Just wait for the announcement.
- * Any Ubuntu release (alpha, beta, RC, final) is not released until the release team announces it on the ubuntu-devel-announce mailing list. That Testing
- https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing
- has been updated and links to ISO images are available does not mean that the release has been made. It only means that the website editors, who work in different timezones than the release team, and in certain parts of the day, have put the pages online, and that can happen a while before actual release.
- Downloading release images prematurely usually makes it harder for mirrors to sync up and uploads to complete, and can delay the release. You'll also most likely be downloading an incomplete, broken image.
- Do not download Alpha 4, or any other release, before the release announcement is made. If you aren't subscribed to the list, you can check for it in the list's archive.
- * If you have any information to add to the bugs that are blocking Alpha 4, be fast in doing so, and refrain from posting comments that don't add any new information that will help fix the bugs.
- * You do not have to download Alpha 4 from scratch if you already have a working Hardy. You'll get an identical set of packages by upgrading your existing test installation.
- * If you'd like to learn more on how exactly a milestone release
- https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MilestoneProcess
- is made, MilestoneProcess lists the steps taken in the process.
